Private islands are the secret weapon of short cruises. Your cruise line controls the beach, the food and the activities, and short Bahamas itineraries almost always include one.

Getting the Most From an Island Day

  • Get off early. The best beach spots and cabanas go first; tenders and piers get busy by late morning.
  • Book extras before you sail. Cabanas, water-park passes and excursions often sell out on board.
  • Lunch is usually included at the main barbecue or buffet; drinks usually are not.
  • Bring reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes and cash or your cruise card — purchases are charged to your onboard account.
